Web Files Saving and Downloading
Important information regarding the saving of Web pages located through a link from your online course:

Your instructor may direct you to Web material with a link embedded in their course notes, and delivered by a course platform (Blackboard, WebCT, eCollege, etc.)  If you wish to save the Web page copy-and-paste the link into your Web browser's Address box before saving the page, or adding it to your Favorites or Bookmarks.

Saving or Downloading using Internet Explorer

To save a page/file from the Web, click on "File."  When the drop down menu opens, click on "Save As."

Option 1: To save the Web page as an electronic document:

1.  When the "Save Web Page" window opens select a location in which to save the page/file.  Because you are saving the page as an e-file you will want to save it to your computer rather than to a removable disk.

2.  Click the "Save in" box and choose the location to which to save the Web page.  If the title listed in the "File name" box is not what you want to save it as, delete it and type in a better title or description of the page.

3.  The "Save as type" should be "Web page, complete (*htm, *.html)."  Click "Save."

Option 2:  To save as "Text file":

1.  When the "Save Web Page" window opens select a location in which to save the page/file.  You may choose any location to save the Web page because you are not dependant on having an ISP when you read a text file.

2.  Click the "Save in" box and choose the location to which to save the Web page.  If the title listed in the "File name" box is not what you want to save it as, delete it and type in a better title or description of the file.

3.  The "Save as type" should be "Text file *.txt)."  Click "Save."

WARNING:  This process saves the text of the page ONLY, without any formatting.  Long lines of text will wrap to the next line on the printed page, splitting words indiscriminately, making the text document difficult to read.

Option 3: Copy-and-Paste:

1.  While you are on the Web page, click on the page and select all of the material.

2.  Perform a copy-and-paste maneuver into a Word file.

3.  Save the Word file wherever you wish.
